Monkeypox virus was first isolated in 1958 from monkeys at the States Serum Institut in Copenhagen, Denmark-thus its name.
Natural host of monkeypox virus
are rodents such as; rope, squirrels, tree squirrels,Gambian pouched rats, and dormice.
